About Me

Hey There!

I couldn’t tell you the first book I ever read, but I can tell you the first one I remember, “No, David” by David Shannon. I was fascinated that the main character in the book shared the name of the author. Perhaps for the first time, I realized there is a living person behind every story. I knew this is where I wanted to find myself one day. I began to imagine authors' lives as I read, and rarely finished a book that didn’t entice me to send a letter to the author. I had unearthed a tantalizing secret: reading is a chance to know someone.

As a child, whenever I was asked what superpower I would pick, my go-to power was mind reading. I wanted to understand others. So, imagine my excitement when I learned this was a superpower I could possess. This was the power of reading. People put their minds on display every day if you are willing to look. Upon this discovery, I could not look away. Of course, I grew out of “No, David.” I came to prefer “The Mysterious Benedict Society, ” then “Nancy Drew” (the namesake of my dog), and “Esperanza Rising.” Soon even these favorites changed, morphing into “The Bell Jar,” “The Bluest Eye,” and anything Edgar Allan Poe. Today, the cruelest thing you could ever ask me is to pick a favorite book or even a favorite author. There are too many great stories and great storytellers out there.

I am drawn to the beauty of language, to the way sentence flows, to the fact that 26 letters can hold every perceivable meaning.

That is the seed for my love of writing. I write because there are stories that need to be told and people who need to be heard. I write to challenge the understanding someone has of the world around them.

Why Me?

My Experience

I graduated in 2020 from Rhodes College with a BA in Creative Writing and a minor in Religious Studies. During my time in and after college, I gained experience through work with The Bridge Magazine, Southern Bride Magazine, Memphis Child Advocacy Center, Forrest Spence Fund, Restore Corps, Campfire Collective, and more. I write to bring awareness to the stories lying just under the surface.

My Passion

I have always been someone full of passion. I care deeply about everything I do, and this is what drives my writing. I write to express the passion I feel and to share what is on my heart. To write is one thing, to tell a story is another. After all, "all the truth in the world is held in stories." (Patrick Rothfuss)

My Love of Others

Writing is a solitary task, there is no denying that. Still, my love of people serves me well in this trade. I write for people and about people. I love getting to know the ins and outs of someone and spend my days looking to understand those around me. Because of this, I grasp what people will respond to and what attracts certain audiences. I write to serve others by providing the stories people need told.
